Installing Assured Composite® Decking Using Plastic Clips

Plastic Clips Allow A 6mm Gap Between Deck Boards

Use Starter Clips To Align The Deck

Fix decking starter clips to the edge of the framework at every joist. Screw through the hole on each decking starter clip with the screws provided ensuring that the screws are fully screwed into place to prevent catching on the composite decking board underneath.

Fix the first composite decking board by pushing into the decking starter clips. Check the composite decking board is securely in place before continuing.

We recommend a maximum joist overhang of 20mm.

Fixing Plastic Decking Fastclips

Fix plastic clips to the first composite decking board at every joist with the screws provided. Place the side of the plastic clips into the decking board groove and screw down half way ensuring they are fully upright. Screw down fully when the next decking board is in place.

Where composite decking boards meet leave an 8mm expansion gap.

Continue with the same process until the last decking board, cutting decking boards where required.

Fixing The Last Decking Board

There are 2 ways to fix the final composite decking board when using plastic clips;

1) Fix the final composite decking board as normal but do not fix the plastic clips to the outer groove.

Pre-drill holes and screw through the outer groove of the decking board at an angle and into the joist with the screws provided. Start at 80mm approx and then at every 300mm approx intervals. Where the decking board groove is not accessible pre-drill holes and screw through the face of the decking board avoiding the groove.

2) Do not fix the last 2 composite decking boards.

Measure 2 decking boards width and 2 x 6mm gaps and mark. Fix decking starter clips where marked at every joist. Screw through the hole on each decking starter clip with the screws provided ensuring that the screw is fully screwed into place to prevent catching on the decking board underneath.

Fix the last decking board by pushing into the decking starter clips. Check the decking board is securely in place before continuing.

Fix the penultimate decking board(s) into the plastic clips which are already in place leaving a 6mm gap. Slide the number of plastic clips required between the last decking board and penultimate decking boards grooves and fix into place at every joist using the screws provided.
