Installing Assured Composite® Decking Board Steps

Using Composite Decking As Steps

When using Assured Composite® decking as steps there are 2 risers that can be used from our Assured Composite® range;
1) Assured Composite® decking board.
2) Assured Composite® fascia.

Composite decking steps can be finished off with Assured Composite® corner trims if preferred following the process in the “Installing Assured Composite® Corner Trim” page.

1) Assured Composite® Decking Board As The Riser

Carefully plan the area checking all measurements. Measure and cut composite decking boards where required.

Fix the decking board to the riser by pre-drilling holes top and bottom and screwing through the face of the decking board. Start at 80mm approx then at every 300mm max intervals. Ensure that the decking board finishes flush with the top of the tread and avoid screwing through the decking board grooves.

Fix decking starter clips to the inside of the tread every 300m max intervals. Screw through the hole on each decking starter clip with the screws provided ensuring that the screw is fully screwed into place to prevent catching on the decking board underneath.

Fix the inner decking board by pushing into the starter clip. Check the decking board is securely in place before continuing.

Using Metal Decking Fastclips

Fix metal clips to the inner decking board at every joist/every 300mm max intervals with the screws provided. Push the metal clips into the decking board groove and screw the other side down through the hole.

Using Plastic Decking Fastclips

Fix plastic clips to the inner decking board at every joist/every 300mm max intervals with the screws provided. Place the side of the plastic clips into the decking board groove and screw down half way ensuring they are upright. Screw down fully when the next decking board is in place.

Fixing The Last Decking Board

Fix the last decking board as normal finishing flush with the decking board riser but do not fix any clips to the outer groove. Pre-drill holes and screw through the outer groove at an angle and into the joist with the screws provided. Start at 80mm approx then at every 300mm approx intervals.

2) Assured Composite® Fascia As The Riser

Carefully plan the area checking all measurements.

Measure and cut composite decking boards and composite fascia where required.

Fix decking starter clips to the inside of the tread every 300m max intervals. Screw through the hole on each decking starter clip with the screws provided ensuring that the screw is fully screwed into place to prevent catching on the decking board underneath.

Fix the inner decking board by pushing into the decking starter clip. Check the decking board is securely in place before continuing.

Fixing The Composite Fascia

Fix the composite fascia to the riser by pre-drilling holes top and bottom and screwing through the face of the composite fascia. Start at 80mm approx then at every 300mm approx intervals. Ensure that the composite fascia finishes flush with the top of the decking board and leave a 2mm expansion gap when joining composite fascia.
